First founded by William Paul in 1810 under the name Kilnflat, the Glenburgie distillery only really began production 1829, it reopened under the name Glenburgie-Glenlivet in 1878. After installing two Lomond stills, it produced a second single malt named Glencraig between 1958 and 1981. Owned by Pernod Ricard since 2000, the distillery’s production capacity increased in 2006, when two still were added. This refreshingly natural bottling places barley at the heart of its flavour and aroma palette. These cereal notes are criss-crossed with fruity, spicy, honeyed and infused sequences that offer welcome oases of freshness.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: rich, powerful. Revealing fruit (pineapple, Mirabelle plum, pear), vanilla, a wonderful herbaceousness (green barley, white mint), gentle spices (cinnamon) and honey (acacia), the aroma palette is remarkably fresh. Allowed to breathe, white chocolate, coconut and almond milk fill the air.

Palate: delicate and creamy. A very lightly medicinal first sequence (balm) is invaded with a barrage of malted barley grains. Gradually, candied lemon, cane sugar and ripe banana then set the scene for more rich and tangy registers.

Finish: long, distinguished. Coated in a fine layer of green liquorice and refreshed with an array of herbs (vervain, sage), the finish lingers on almond pastries, candied pear and toast. Lovely menthol and vanilla notes arrive at the end.
