Edradour 10 Year Old 2014 Sherry Butt Foundations, ABV 59.7%

Single Cask #291 – First Fill Oloroso Sherry Butt

Limited edition of 655 bottles

LMDW Exclusive

Founded as Glenforres in 1825 and renamed Edradour in 1837, this distillery was bought in 2002 by Andrew Symington, founder of independent bottler Signatory Vintage. Since 2018, it has also produced its single malt in the brand new distillery adjoining the former site. An exact replica of the latter, it is equipped with a Morton must refrigerator – the only one of its kind in Scotland – eight Oregon Pine washbacks, a 4200-litre wash still and a 2200-litre spirit still. This wonderfully oxidative bottling is sure to capture the hearts of old-school sherry fans. The slender flavour and aroma palette is characterised by a plethora of diverse and eloquent fruits.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: rich, unctuous. Revealing a lovely rancio (brandied cherries), dark chocolate, cinnamon, citrus fruit zest, beeswax, heather honey and dried fruits (date, fig, raisin), the aroma palette is warm, rich and wonderfully mature.

Palate: clean, lively. The flavour palette is elegant and marked by notes of vanilla and roasted  coffee. A fine layer of salted butter caramel gradually coats the taste buds. With time, the dried fruits found on the nose return in force. This rich intermission is drawn out by notes of curry and herbal infusions (chamomile, lime blossom).

Finish: long, full. With refreshing citrus fruit zests (lemon, orange), the tasting now develops more herbaceous (tobacco, straw) and spicy (clove, Espelette pepper) registers. Alongside resinous notes of pine and eucalyptus, a handful of tropical fruits (mango, persimmon) bring lots of tone to the retro-nasal olfaction.
