Caol Ila, from the Gaelic “the Strait of Islay”, is one of the most appreciated whiskeys from the island of Islay, both for its peaty, smoky and iodized character but also for its finesse. This distillery gives birth to the smoothest of Islay malts, recognizable among all by its notes of olive oil, smoke, fruit and its marine freshness. Little marked by its aging in hogshead casks, this Caol Ila distilled in 2016 from the Islay Selection 2022 range presents a smoky and salty profile, supported by notes of vanilla and citrus.

Tasting Notes: 

Nose: A blend of iodine, fresh herbs, and soft vanilla greets the senses. The maritime hint of iodine is balanced by herbaceous notes and a touch of creamy vanilla.

Palate: Rich and layered, with notes of hay and vanilla providing an earthy base. Toasted wood adds a subtle smokiness, while the bright, zesty flavour of grapefruit gradually emerges, bringing a refreshing contrast.

Finish: The finish is long and satisfying, with a gentle spice, bright orange zest, and lingering vanilla sweetness. A touch of nutmeg adds warmth to the aftertaste.
