Balvenie 18 Years Old Pineau de Charentes Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ml 47.9%

A special release from The Balvenie, this whisky was finished in Pineau de Charentes casks. Pineau de Charentes is a fortified wine from the Cognac region of France and is a mixture of wine and young eau-de-vie. This finishing complements The Balvenie's classic sweet honey and fruit flavours seemlessly to create a bright and elegant whisky. 

The Distillery

Originally founded in 1892 in an old converted mansion, Balvenie now sits as a giant among the Scotch whisky industry producing 4.4 million litres of spirit every year. According to their Malt Master David Stewart, they are "the only distillery in Scotland that still grows its own barley, uses traditional floor maltings and keeps both a Coppersmith and a team of Coopers on site". Their spirit is known for its sweet powerful honey and light vanilla notes complemented by classic Speyside fruitiness. David Stewart was one of the first to experiment with what we now know as 'cask finishing', which has now become a staple of The Balvenie and the Scotch whisky industry as a whole.
